Determining Your Shape
1.Inverted triangle body (shoulder width > hip width)
Features: wider shoulders, narrow hips, thin waist and legs.
Suitable styles:
A-line wedding dress/ball gown wedding dress: Use fluffy hem to balance the width of the upper body and shift the visual focus;
Deep V-neck/heart-shaped neckline: Stretch the neck line vertically and weaken the shoulder width;
High-waisted empire line + draped skirt: Lengthen the proportion of the lower body and avoid emphasizing the shoulders.
Avoid styles:
Puff sleeves/shoulder pad design: Will further magnify the shoulder width;
Sleeveless or thin straps: Expose the broad shoulder line;
Mermaid wedding dress:Highlight the narrow hips, which is more obvious in contrast to the shoulder width.
2. Pear-shaped figure (hip width > shoulder width)
Features: slender upper body, fuller hips and thighs.
Suitable styles:
Empire high waistline wedding dress: the waistline is below the hips, the skirt falls naturally, covering the hips and legs;
A-line wedding dress/ball gown wedding dress: stiff fabrics (such as satin) support the dress and balance the lower body;
Boat neck/straight neck: widen the shoulder vision and optimize the head-to-shoulder ratio.
Avoid styles:
mermaid wedding dress: close to the hips will magnify the shortcomings;
Low waistline design: stuck in the hips and look bloated;
Hip decoration (pleats/sequins): draw attention to the plump part.
3. Hourglass figure (shoulder width ≈ hip width, thin waist)
Features: full chest and hips, slender waist, obvious curves.
Suitable styles:
Mermaid wedding dress: highlight waist and hip curves, show body advantages;
Slim sheath style: fit the body shape and emphasize natural curves;
V-neck/tube top + waist design: enhance the slender waist.
Avoid styles:
Straight H-shaped wedding dress: cover the waistline and look bloated;
High waist empire line: blur the waist and hip ratio;
Ball gown wedding dress: cover the curves and look bulky.
4. Apple-shaped figure (full waist and abdomen, thin legs)
Features: round chest and abdomen, inconspicuous waist, slender legs.
Suitable styles:
A-line wedding dress: the skirt spreads out from below the chest to cover the waist and abdomen;
Empire high waistline + drape fabric: the waistline moves up, and the skirt naturally covers the flesh;
V-neck/U-neck: lengthen the neck and shift the line of sight to the upper body.
Avoid styles:
Corset + ball gown wedding dress: highlight the abdomen;
Low waistline/belt decoration: stuck at the widest part of the abdomen;
Close-fitting satin: the fabric is reflective and bulging.
5. Rectangular body (H-shaped, shoulder, waist and hip widths are similar)
Features: The curves are not obvious, and the shoulders, waist and hips are almost the same width.
Suitable styles:
Ball gown wedding dress: Increase the volume of the lower body and create the illusion of a thin waist;
A-line wedding dress: with a waistband or pleated design to "create" a waistline;
Avoid styles:
Straight sheath style: Exposing no curves;
Simple mermaid wedding dress: Need natural curves to support;
No waistline design: Appears flat.
